All of our friends love to watch movies. So in 1980, a group of us decided
to collectively run our own cinema. Hence, the
Red Vic Movie House. For almost 10 years, Red Vic's first home was at the corner
of Haight and Belvedere Streets. Here, we introduced our now legendary
couches to offer our patrons a funky, yet comfy, place to watch their favorite films. |

In 1991, the Red Vic moved to its present location, on Haight Street between
Cole and Shraeder Streets. Unlike the orginal Red Vic location, the new Red Vic offers a larger
auditorium equipped with video, 16mm and 35 mm dolby stereo sound projection.
But we still have signature couches and organic treats available for your
movie watching pleasure. |

Currently, the Red Vic is run by collective members and many dedicated volunteers.
Thanks for visiting our web site, and we hope you visit our theater soon.
A special thanks to our faithful patrons, who have made us one of the most
popular theaters in San Francisco.
